Werner, Ella

Ella Werner née Plaut, was born in Karlsbad (Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic) in 1880, moved with her family to Frankfurt am Main. She attended the Philanthropin academy and married the radiologist Bernhard Baer, with whom she had a son. Meanwhile, she pursued work as a lab assistant and eventually also performed clerical work. Baer died in 1912, and she married Max Werner in 1915. They had one son. She increasingly devoted her energies to social work and women's and children's causes, including the Jewish Women's Association (Jüdischer Frauenbund). She emigrated with her family to New York City, and died in 1964. For more information, see the curriculum vitae in the file.
