Weir, C. E. (Stephen Cyril Etterick), 1905-1969
Sir Stephen Cyril Etterick Weir (b. 1905-d. 1969), Major General in the New Zealand Army, held a number of key positions during World War II, including commanding officer, 6th New Zealand Field Artillery Regiment in Greece and North Africa; commander, Royal Artillery 2nd NZ Division in North Africa and Italy; commander, Corps Royal Artillery in Italy. After the War, he served as Quartermaster-General; Chief of the General Staff; and Military Advisor of the New Zealand government. He retired from the military in 1961 when he began a term as Ambassador to Thailand.
