Eugène François Vidocq (1775-1857) was a French police officer who founded the first private detective agency in 1832 in Paris.

Famous French detective who served as the head of the Sûretéte-Nationale from ca. 1807-1827. He later founded a private detective agency, the first of its kind, and established measures to protect tradesmen and merchants from swindlers.
