The Copyright Management Center (CMC) was established in 1994 by IUPUI to inform IUPUI and the Indiana University system regarding copyright law and the management of copyright issues in higher education. The CMC was the first such university-based center in the United States. Professor Kenneth D. Crews of the IU School of Law-Indianapolis served as director of CMC during its existence at IUPUI. The CMC provided advice to university administrators, schools, departments, and individual faculty members on such matters as copyright, digital fair use, distance learning, and other topics, hosted conferences and speakers, and participated in national and international discussions of copyright law formulation and implementation.
