James Brydges, 1st Duke of Chandos (1673-1744), was a British statesman and patron of the arts. His only surviving son, Henry Brydges, 2nd Duke of Chandos (1708-1771), inherited the dukedom and some of his father's posts. James Brydges, 3rd Duke of Chandos (1732-1789), son of Henry Brydges, was a Whig politician and courtier. The 3rd Duke had no male heirs, and at his death the dukedom became extinct. His daughter Anna Eliza married Richard Grenville, later the 1st Duke of Buckingham and Chandos.
