Arnott, James Fullarton (1914-1982: academic and Professor at the Department of Drama, Glasgow University)
James Fullarton Arnott ( 1914-1982 ) was a student at Glasgow University and graduated in 1936. He was an assistant lecturer with the Department of English at Glasgow University in 1939 and senior lecturer from 1962. He left in 1966 for the newly founded Department of Drama at Glasgow University, where he became its first professor in 1973. He retired in 1979 and was appointed Emeritus Professor. He co-edited English Theatrical Literature, 1559-1900 (1969) with John William Robinson. He was involved with and served on many theatre organisations including: The Citizens' Theatre, Scottish Society of Playwrights committee, the Arts Council, The Third Eye Centre, Glasgow, The British Theatre Institute, The Scottish Theatre Company, The International Society for Theatre Research, the Royal Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Scotland.
