Afrikan Culture Society.

In 1973, a group of African Americans at Leavenworth Penitentiary, Leavenworth, Kansas helped to form a "Black Culture/Black Studies Workshop." Out of that workshop grew the Afrikan Culture Society (A.C.S.). A.C.S.'s stated aim was "the examination, analysis and the creating of solutions to the critical problems effecting Afrikan people," particularly in the United Stated. To that end, A.C.S. sponsored a number of programs and events, such as classes, seminars, Kwanzaa celebrations, and Black History month activities.
