Society formed in 1868 as the New Mexico, Arizona, and Colorado Missionary Association for the purpose of establishing missionaries, churches, and schools in the southwest territories of the U.S. In 1870, the name was changed to the Ladies' Board of Missions, and the Board's domain was extended to foreign countries.
