Rose Lawson was born Rose Jaskoski in 1907 in North Dakota. She earned a B.A. in Education in 1946 and moved to Fairbanks, Alaska that same year to teach 8th grade. She met Frank Lawson in 1946 and they were married in 1947. She began writing to her friends and family in the lower '48 upon arriving in Alaska. Her letters convey a sense of daily life in Fairbanks and also provide insight, often humorous, into major events and issues in Alaska.
