William Thelwall Thomas was born in Liverpool in 1925, and qualified in medicine at Glasgow in 1886. After a short period as Assistant to a general practitioner in Wales, he returned to Liverpool to take a post as House Physician and House Surgeon at Liverpool Royal Infirmary. He was elected Assistant Surgeon in 1890, and full Surgeon in 1907. From 1913 onwards Thelwall Thomas also held the post of Professor of Clinical Surgery at Liverpool University. Thelwall Thomas served on the Council of the Royal College of Surgeons, and represented the University of Liverpool on the General Medical Council. He was President of Liverpool Medical Institution 1918-1919. Thelwall Thomas died suddenly in September 1927.
