George Albert Lowell was born in Calais, Maine, in 1831 and died there in 1907. During the gold fever in 1849 he and his brother Reuben B. went to California but two years later returned to Calais where George entered the retail store business. In 1879 he became the treasurer of the Calais Savings Bank. In 1882 he was elected city treasurer and held that office for 8 years. He was a member of the Universalist Church.

Frederick H. Lowell, son of George Albert Lowell, was born in 1861 in Upper Mills, New Brunswick, and died in Calais, Maine, in 1932. He was treasurer of the Union Congregational Church in Calais in 1907 and 1908.
