Charles Backus Dana (ca. 1805-1873) was born in New Hampshire, graduated from Dartmouth College and became a member of the clergy.

He served as Protestant Episcopal rector of Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia (1834-1860); Saint James Parish in Port Gibson, Mississippi (1861-1866); and Trinity church in Natchez, Mississippi (1866-1873).
