The Cadets of the Ole War Skule was first organized in 1955 by former Louisiana State University cadets who had attended its downtown campus to support the rich military heritage and traditions of LSU. Their annual meetings on Homecoming Day afforded them the opportunity to encourage and support participation in the LSU Corps of Cadets. Eventually, as members aged and passed away, the group ceased to hold its annual meetings. The Cadets of the Ole War Skule reorganized in 1995, opening membership to current and former members of the Corps of Cadets, alumni who serve or had served in any one of the uniformed services, and their spouses. At the same time, LSU Salutes was created to recognize all former cadets and other veterans who had served or had given their lives in service to the United States of America. The LSU Board of Supervisors designated LSU Salutes as an official University event in March 1998.
