Phelan family.
The Phelan family resided in Conn. and Ala. Prominent members included circuit judge and Ala. Supreme Court Justice John D. Phelan and his son Judge Ellis Phelan who was Ala. Secretary of State and a probate judge in Hartford, Conn.
Ellis Phelan also served as Captain, eventually Major, of Company A of the 45th Ala. during the Civil War.
