Arthur Irwin Launder (1895-1977) was a prominent Seattle engineer and patron of the arts who also was very active in promoting the development of the local classical music scene. A graduate of Stanford University, Launder worked for the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph Company as a traffic facilities supervisor during the 1920s. In a professional capacity, he served as president of the Seattle Engineers Club and was a member of the American Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. Among his accomplishments as a civic leader, Launder was a charter member and co-founder of the the Seattle Philharmonic and Orchestra Society, chair of the founding committee of the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestra, and president of the Amphion Society, a Seattle choral group.
