Bain, George W. (George William), 1901-
Variant namesBain was born in Canada and educated at McGill (B. Sc., 1921; M. Sc., 1923) and Columbia (M.A., 1923; Ph. D., 1927) Universities. He taught at Amherst College, 1926-1966, in geology and minerology. Bain was a consulting geologist to the Vermont Marble Company, as well as in the State Geological Survey of Vermont, Canadian Geological Survey, McIntyre Porcupine Mines and Phelps Dodge Corporation. In addition, he was a member of numerous federal boards and agencies, including the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission. He died June 19, 1991.
