This suite is parts I, IV, III respectively of the ballet. Introduction, Parts I and IV composed 1937; part III composed 1940. First and second movements (parts I and IV) awarded first prize of $500 in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra Golden Jubilee contest for American composers, season 1940-41. First performance of first two movements under the title Two Symphonic Impressions by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Chicago, February 13, 1941, Frederick Stock conducting.--Cf.
