Rice, Hazelton, 1788-1870.
Daniel Rice (1755-1831), early proprietor and first settler of the town of Somerset, married Sally Ball (1764-1838) in 1782. Their children, who figure in the Rice papers, were Hazelton (1788-1870), Daniel (1783 -?), Ephraim (1792-1859), Melinthy (1796-1816), and Sally (1798 -?).
Hazelton married Rhoda Stone (1782-1846) in 1809. Their children were: Hiram W. (1810-1849), Hazelton (1822-1906), Nancy (1813-1888), Melintha (Melinthy) (1817-1869), and Sarah (Sally) (1821-1904).
Sons-in-law, Oliver Pike, who married Melintha in 1835, and James M. Alger, who married Sally in 1847, also play a part in the Rice papers.
