George Whitfield Jack (1875-1924) was born in Natchitoches, La., the son of Col. William Houston Jack and Mary Catherine Whitfield. Graduating from Tulane University Law School in 1898, he began law practice in Shreveport. He was appointed to his position of United States District Judge, Western District of Louisiana, by President Woodrow Wilson in 1917. He was married to Roberta Pegues Jack; they had three children (Whitfield, Welborn, and Stuart). He was considered popular and successful, handling both civil and criminal litigation. Judge Jack died of heart disease, at the age of 49, in Shreveport.
