Fancy Prairie, Illinois, farmer and livestock breeder.
Shaver's parents, William and Jane Ross Shaver, immigrated to Illinois from Virginia in the early 1850s. John Shaver, their one surviving child, inherited the family farm and became involved in breeding and shipping livestock. He owned land in Menard and Logan Counties. He was married twice, to Jannette Jones with whom he had one child, Lilly; and to Nannie Gillespie with whom he had four children, Jane, Mary, Willie and Helen Pauline. Shaver served as a school director for over 25 years.
