The Institute of Gerontology was established in 1953, in recognition of Iowa's responsibility to its people with relationship to the problem of an increasing number of older citizens. As a research and information center, its goal was to gather and disseminate material to local organizations which were engaged in planning programs for the aged. The institute closed in 1971.
