The Synod of New Jersey was formed from the division of the Synod of New York and New Jersey. It split into Old School and New School factions in 1838; the New School group became the Synod of Newark in 1839 and merged into the Synod of New York and New Jersey while the Old School group continued under the current name; continued by UPCUSA synod of the same name.
