Mears (1889-1946) was on the Stanford faculty from 1921 until his death in 1946, teaching in the Department of Economics and the Graduate School of Business, and serving as a director of the Hoover Library. He earned his A.B. (1910) and M.B.A. (1912) at Harvard and was U.S. trade commissioner in Turkey, 1919-1920.

Eliot Grinnell Mears earned his Harvard AB in 1910 and graduated from the Harvard School of Business Administration in 1912. He was Assistant Secretary and then Secretary of the Harvard Business School, 1913-1916; Instructor in Public Utilities at Business School, 1914-1916 and later became Prof. of Geography and International Trade at Stanford Business School.
