Martin family.
The Martin family has long been a prominent family in Alabama politics. Joshua Lanier Martin (1799-1856) was a member of the state legislature, the U.S. Congress, and Governor of Ala., 1845-1849. John Mason Martin (1838-1898) also served in the state legislature, U.S. Congress, as a professor at the Univ. of Ala., and as chairman of the Democratic Executive Committee of Jefferson Co.
The family also included Warner Martin, the lawyer Peter Martin (1797-1862), and John William Martin.
