This was only the third department of its kind in the United States. The program was expanded to the rest of South Carolina with seven affiliated Family Resident Programs. Curry held his position of Professor and Chairman of the Department of Family Practice until his death in 1989. Dr. Curry held membership in fifteen professional organizations on the local, state, national, and international level, including the American Medical Association, South Carolina Medical Association, Society of Teachers of Family Medicine, and the International Center for Family Medicine.
