David W. Craig, newspaper editor and co-founder of Republican Party in Oregon, was born in Kentucky on July 25, 1830. In 1853 he arrived in Oregon and first worked for Asahel Bush at the Oregon Statesman. He published several newspapers during his career, including the Oregon Argus, Salem Daily Record, and the Willamette Farmer. Craig and William L. Adams formed the first Republican newspaper in Oregon, the Oregon Argus, in 1855.
