Frankfourth was director of the Alaska Center for the Environment, 1976 to 1977 until leaving to organize conservation participation in the Congressional field hearings, the Alaska lands act. She then became a lobbyist in Washington D.C. for the Alaska Coalition working to pass the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act. Scholes was the Alaska representative of the The Wilderness Society in 1976, then became the Alaska Program Director for the Wilderness Society and the lobbying coordinator for the Alaska Coalition.
