She is best known for her pen-and-ink work. At age eighteen she began drawing for the Philadelphia Public Ledger and for the department store Strawbridge and Clothier's advertising department. She also worked as a staff artist for Ladies' Home Journal and Harper's Weekly . After her marriage to architect Huger Elliot in 1911, she concentrated mainly on illustrating children's and young adult books, specializing in medieval subjects.
