Women's Social and Political Union
Variant namesThe Women's Social and Political Union was founded in 1903 in London by Mrs. Emmeline Pankhurst; its goal, woman suffrage. At first it used peaceful means but later turned to deliberate violence in an effort to embarrass party leaders and force them to do something about the vote for women.
