Holly, Joan Carol Hunter, 1932-
Variant namesJoan Hunter Holly was born September 25, 1932 to Arthur Hunter (1888-1958) and Hazel (Trumbo) Holly (1891-1971). She received her Bachelor of Arts at Michigan State University Magna Cum Laude in 1954.
In 1959, Holly published her first book, Encounter, under the name J. Hunter Holly. She went on to publish twelve more novels and contributed to a number of anthologies, including And Walk Now Gently through the Fire, (Chilton, 1973), and The Other Side of Tomorrow: Original Science Fiction Stories about Young People of the Future (Random House, 1973).
Holly was a member of Science-Fiction Writers of America, serving as trustee in 1973, treasurer from 1975 to 1979, and south/central regional director from 1979 to 1982. Holly died in 1982 in Lansing, Michigan.
