George R. Young was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in 1920. He came to Detroit in 1924 with his mother, two sisters, and a brother, Coleman. After leaving the Army in 1946 he got his first job as a mail postal clerk in Detroit. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Detroit in 1961. In 1973 he was appointed Director of Customer Services in the Detroit Post Office the second ranking postal official under Postmaster Edward L. Baker. Mr. Young died of a heart attack while in Jamaica on February 25, 1975. (blue index cards)
