Arceneaux, William
William Arceneaux was born in Scott, La., on August 19, 1941. He received a B.A. degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana (1962) and M.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Louisiana State University (1965, 1969). He was executive director of the Louisiana Coordinating Council for Higher Education (1972-1975), commissioner of higher education for the Louisiana Board of Regents (1975-1987), and president of the Louisiana Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (1987-2007). Arceneaux also served on the board of the Student Loan Marketing Association or "Sallie Mae" (1981-1997, chair 1993-1997), as well as being active in numerous professional and civic organizations.
