Albert Wells Hubbard (AC 1867), the son of Chauncey P. and Mary (Wells) Hubbard, was born in Cameron, N.Y., October 18, 1841, and was fitted for college in the preparatory department of Alfred University, N.Y. He also attended Alfred in 1863 for his first year in college. He entered Amherst College in September 1864, graduating in 1867. Hubbard obtained his theological education at Princeton Seminary, graduating in 1870. He was ordained on May 1, 1870 in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, and was pastor of the Monaghan Presbyterian Church there until 1873. In the autumn of 1873 he married Emma R. Spencer and entered the service of the American Board of Missions and went to Sivas, Western Turkey where he and Emma continued their missionary work until his death from pneumonia and pleurisy on April 13, 1899. The Hubbards had eight children, of whom four would graduate from Amherst College: Ray Spencer (b. Dec. 3, 1875, AC 1900), Crescens (b. Sept. 1, 1877, AC 1900), Hugh Wells (b. Mar. 19, 1887, AC 1908), and Theodore Horace (b. July 5, 1892, AC 1914).
