Patterson, Charlotte Nelson, 1903-1978.
After petitoning the faculty council in the fall of 1926, Charlotte Ruth Nelson became one of the first female graduates of North Carolina State College of Agriculture and Engineering (later North Carolina State University), in 1927. She also earned a degree from the all-female Meredith College the same year. By doing so, she became the first student in North Carolina to earn degrees from two colleges at the same time. She taught school for 35 years. Other female students receiving degrees in 1927 were Jane S. McKimmon and Mary E. Yarbrough.
