Educated at Queen's College, Oxford and Wells Theological College. He was ordained Deacon in 1849 and then spent 5 years travelling overseas as the tutor and companion of Lord Henry Scott (second son of the Duke of Buccleuch), visiting Egypt, India, Australia and New Zealand. In 1865 he was appointed by the Duke of Buccleuch to the living of Warkton in Northamptonshire, which he held until 1881.He died in 1896.
