Skagit Coal and Coke Company.

Hide Profile

Incorporated in 1899 under the laws of the state of Minnesota, the company purposed to buy the property of the Skagit Coal and Transportation Company (control of which was secured by GN in 1899), henceforth buying, mining, and selling coal and coke. The company--which owned nearly 3,800 acres of coal and timber land in Skagit County, and a few idle tracts in northern Minnesota-- operated its mines and ovens from 1900 until 1904, after which only poor quality coal was encountered. The property was leased to other firms (including Cokedale Coal Company) until 1922, after which it was in disuse until the expiration of the corporate charter in 1930.
