Born Barbara Lynn Shaw in Long Beach, Calif. in 1946, Barbara Holme is a democrat who began her service in the Colorado State Senate by defeating then incumbent Rosanne Ball (Republican) in 1974. During her time in government she was the Minority Caucus Leader and Assistant Minority Leader; and a member of the: Appropriations, Finance, State Affairs, Legislative Council and Local Government Committees. In 1980, Senator Holme was named the outstanding Democratic Senator by the Colorado Social Legislation Committee she was chosen for her work in legislation sponsoring: housing, utilities reform, school finance and public education. She married lawyer Howard Holme in 1968.
