Lutheran World Ministries (Agency). Standing Committee on Volunteer Service.

Hide Profile

Established in 1977 as the successor body of the U.S.A. National Committee of the Lutheran World Federation (USANC), Lutheran World Ministries was a joint agency of the Lutheran Church in America, The American Lutheran Church, and the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches. Its Standing Committee and Office on Volunteer Service were established to promote volunteerism among its Lutheran constituencies and to carry out its volunteer program, World Brotherhood Exchange. In 1987, LWM was terminated and its USANC responsibilities were assumed by the Office/Department for Ecumenical Affairs of the newly created Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
