Hobson, Julius W., 1922-1977.
Julius W. Hobson was a civil rights activist, civic leader, and elected official. He held leadership positions with the Federation of Civic Associations (1956-1959), NAACP (1950-1959), CORE (1960-1964), ACT (1964-1969). He was elected to the Board of Education in 1969 and to the City Council in 1974 and died in office in 1977. He founded the Statehood Party and was active in anti-discrimination campaigns covering employment, education, housing, and transportation issues. He was also involved with anti-war and peace campaigns and the Black Power movement in the 1960s.
