Carmen DelliQuadri was born in Pueblo, Colorado in 1917. After working as an elementary school teacher and principal, he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, History and Political Science and a Master of Arts in Economics from the University of Colorado. Before coming to Michigan Technological University, he was an assistant professor at the University of Detroit and chief economist for the United Auto Workers labor union. As one of the original faculty members in the School of Business and Engineering Administration, DelliQuadri received the Distinguished Teaching Award in 1972 and was named the School of Business and Engineering Administration's Outstanding Teacher in 1981. Eventually being honored as Professor Emeritus, DelliQuadri also served on Michigan's State Board of Education and the State Board of Community Colleges and was a staunch Democrat, active at the state and local level. DelliQuadri is remembered by his students for making them negotiate for their grades, providing them with skills rarely found in a textbook.
