Methodist minister, editor of The Christian Advocate, bishop.
Linus Parker was born in Oneida County, New York on 23 April 1829. He served as a soldier in the Mexican War in 1846. Parker served as a Supply Minister in New Orleans for two months after which he was licensed as a Methodist Minister. He became an elder in 1853. In 1853 Parker married Sallie F. Sale who died three months later. In 1858 Parker married Ellen K. Burruss. They had three sons, one of whom, Franklyn (Franklin) Nutting Parker, later became Dean of Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Parker served as editor of the Christian Advocate from 1870-81. In 1882 he was elevated to the episcopacy and gave supervision to the Texas, Missouri, North Carolina, Mississippi, and Maryland conferences. Bishop Linus Parker died of an apparent cerebral hemorrhage on 5 March 1885 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
