Brent Wilson received his Bachelor of Science degree in art and education from Utah State University in 1956. He earned his Master of Fine Arts degree in painting at the Cranbrook Academy of Arts in 1958. He pursued graduate studies at the University of Utah from 1959 to 1961, and received his Ph.D. in art education at the Ohio State University in 1966. Wilson served as the head of the art education area of the University of Iowa for twelve years beginning in 1962. During that time, he also served as president of the Iowa Art Educators and of the Utah Designer Craftsmen, and as chairman of the professional policy committee of the School of Art of the University of Iowa. He joined the faculty at Penn State in 1974 where he served as professor of art education, as well as head of the art education program in the School of Visual Arts (1983-1985; 1989-1999). He received great praise for his work with children in art education. He retired in 2004 as professor emeritus of art education.
