Jonah Thompson (1702 or 3-1780), Quaker minister and schoolmaster m. Mary Beaton (1735). He established a Quaker school at Compton, Dorsetshire (England) ca. 1735 and made a religious visit to America in 1750-51. His son Thomas (1746-1826) succeeded him as head of school. John Thompson (ca. 1744-1819), son of Jonah, emigrated to Philadelphia (1770). John's son, James B. Thompson (b.1785) merchant, m. Lydia Poultney in 1809. Their son, John James Thompson (1815-1875) manufacturer and member of I.P. Morris & Co., m. Elizabeth Hough Trotter. John and Elizabeth's son, James Beaton Thompson (1855-1915) was a member of Phila. Monthly Meeting and Haverford College graduate (1874).
