An East Midlands Operational Research Society was established by January 1970, a splinter group formed from the Midlands Operational Research Society. Its second meeting was held in December 1970. Although it developed a committee, poor membership and its emerging status as a society delayed its affiliation with the ORS (MSS.335/SO/3/14/2; MSS.335/SO/4/4/15, p. 1). It occurs as EMORG (the East Midlands Operational Research Group) by February 1974 and was associated with the Operational Research Society by 1977 (MSS.335/SO/3/14/1). The region covered by EMORG includes Derbyshire, parts of Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Northamptonshire and Nottinghamshire.
