Caffey, Hugh W. (Hugh William), 1833-1919.
H. W. Caffey was appointed acting surgeon at the Winder Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, in August 1862. He was assigned to wards 45 and 46 and later to ward 43. He was promoted to assistant surgeon by the Medical Examining Board in Richmond and sent to Camp Holmes, near Raleigh, North Carolina, in order to examine conscripts for the Confederate Army. He completed this assignment in March, 1863.
