Tatjana Bujas Lorković was born on January 17, 1933, in Beograd, Yugoslavia. She emigrated to the United States in 1964. She received an M.A. in Yugoslav Languages and Literatures and Russian Language and Literature from the University of Croatia at Zagreb in 1957; an M.A. in Library Science from the University of Minnesota in 1968; and an M.A. in Russian Language and Literature from the University of Iowa in 1972. Lorković worked at the University of Iowa as Slavic librarian (1968-1972) and as head of the cataloging department (1973-1989). From 1989 to the present, she has served as the curator of the Slavic and East European Collections at Yale University.
