Simons, James, 1761-1815
Variant namesBeaufort and Charleston, S.C. merchant and South Carolina state representative. Through the influence of his political ally Jacob Read he was appointed naval officer for the port of Charleston in 1795. In 1797 Simons became collector of customs for South Carolina.
