Gordon Wright graduated from the Ontario Agricultural College in 1933, where he was an outstanding athlete and strong member of the rugby squad of 1932-1933. He married Ruth Baker, Mac '37 and daughter of Prof. A.W. Baker, in Nov. 1939. He was Director of the Physical and Health Education Branch of the Department of Education from 1947-1962. G. Wright established the Ontario Athletic Leadership Camp (OALC) and the Ontario Camp Leadership Centre (Bark Lake) and, between 1947 and 1952, the Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Associations (OFSAA). He also served as president of the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education and Recreation (CAHPER) from 1959-1963. In 1962 he was appointed Director of Fitness and Amateur Sport, Division of the Department of National Health and Welfare in Ottawa. From 1969-1974, he was principal of Banting Memorial High School in Alliston, Ont. The G.A. Wright Athletic Field was named after him at the high school in 1984. He was inducted into the University of Guelph's Gryphon Sports Hall of Fame in 1985.
