The Cambridge University Automobile Club was founded in 1902 and was active until 1910. It had a club room containing periodicals and other literature relating to the sport, and a garage for the storage and repair of members' cars. The club organised 'runs', hill climbs, for which there were two trophies, the Rothschild Challenge Cup and the Garnett-Botfield Challenge Cup for Motor Cycles, and was involved in inter-varsity races. In October 1910 the club voted to suspend its activities, apparently because of a lack of undergraduate members. After correspondence with the remaining life member in 1920 and 1926 the club was formally wound up. Its trophies were given to the Cambridge University Motorcycle Club.
