McCain, William D. (William David), 1907-1993
Variant namesWilliam David McCain (1907-1993) was a nationally recognized author, lecturer, historian, archivist and genealogist. He taught at several colleges in Mississippi before serving as director of the Mississippi Department of Archives & History from 1938 to 1955. He also was the fifth president of the University of Southern Mississippi between 1955 and 1975.
